The Risk Of Neuropathy
The elevated blood sugar (glucose) levels can indicate a high risk of diabetes. But the scientists have found a higher than the usual number of lipids in some specific patients of diabetes. The scientists are yet to name for these lipids. The research is going on to identify them.
Neuropathy is the complication where patients can lose the senses. There is a high risk of limb amputation (partial or full) in patients of neuropathy. Neuropathy will develop gradually in 30 to 40 percent of the patients of diabetes.
Diabetes Link To The Sedentary Time
The researchers from the Maastricht University, Netherlands have found a possible link between the sedentary time and the risk of diabetes while checking the oral glucose tolerance test.
The study has found that the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D) increases by 22 percent for each hour by sitting down.
All the participants were asked to wear an accelerometer to record the sedentary behavior for the calculation of the sedentary time.
The Trial On Stem Cells
The scientists at Basel, Switzerland have developed the stem cells from the body fat of a 50-year-old man. They converted the endogenous stem cells into the insulin-making beta cells by adding new genetic code. The scientists are keen to perform the trial on humans within five years.
This process is natural as the beta cells are made from the stem cells of the patient. This study was published in the journal Nature Communications.
Martin Fussenegger, the lead researcher of the study says that "The timing and the quantities of these growth factors are extremely important". The three essential growth factors are Ngn3, Pdx1 and MafA.
Tandem Diabetes Care
Tandem Diabetes Care, Inc is engaged in the manufacturing of products for the insulin-dependent patients of type 2 diabetes. The company makes an Insulin pump.
Walk During The Break To Lower The Risk Of Diabetes
The sedentary behavior can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and heart disease. A study by the National Charity Partnership has found that 24 percent of the staff in an office or in a factory are working even during the lunch breaks.
By working during the lunch break, a person is increasing the risk of diseases. The study calls the workers to walk during the breaks to protect their health.
JDRF "One Walk" Program
More than 500 people have participated in the 3.2-mile walk (One Walk) program of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) at the Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast. A total of more than $715,000 was raised for diabetes research and education.
The JDRF was established more than 40 years ago for the prevention and treatment of type 1 diabetes (T1D).
The Risk Of Community-Acquired Pneumonia (Illness)
Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is the 7th leading cause of death in the United States. About four to five million cases are being reported annually and nearly 25 percent of them need hospitalization.
This is one type of pneumonia contracted by the patients of diabetes, either at the outside of a hospital or at the extended health care facilities. An annual vaccination to a person can lower the risk of diseases.
A person can prevent the illness by maintaining hygiene conditions and by avoiding sick people. The lead researcher of the study was Madalena Martins.
