Elevated blood glucose levels indicate a high risk of diabetes. But scientists found higher than usual count of lipid in some specific diabetes patients. Scientists yet to name them and research is going on to identify them. Patients with diabetes and neuropathy complication have high levels of the unnamed lipid count. Neuropathy is the complication where patients senses to be dulled and in some cases limb amputation. Neuropathy will be developed gradually in 30% to 40% of the patients with diabetes.
Researchers from Maastricht University, Netherlands found a possible link between sedentary time and diabetes while checking oral glucose tolerance test. They found that type 2 diabetes (T2D) increased by 22% for each hour spent sitting down. All participants were asked to wear an accelerometer to record sedentary behavior and then calculated sedentary time.
Scientists in Basel, Switzerland made stem cells from the body fat of a 50-year-old man. They converted endogenous stem cells into insulin making beta cells by adding new genetic code. Scientists are keen to perform human trials within five years. This process is natural as beta cells are made from own body stem cells. This study was published in the Journal Nature Communications. Lead researcher Martin Fussenegger, says "The timing and the quantities of these growth factors are extremely important". The three essential growth factors are called Ngn3, Pdx1 and MafA.
Sedentary behavior increases type 2 diabetes (T2D) and heart disease risks. The study by National Charity Partnership found that 24 percent of workers work even during their lunch breaks and indirectly increasing their health risks. The study calls workers to walk during breaks to protect their wellbeing.
More than 500 people participated in 3.2-mile walk (One Walk) program of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast. Total of more than $715,000 raised to benefit diabetes research and education. JDRF was established more than 40 years ago to cure, prevention and treatment of type 1 diabetes (T1D).
Lead researcher Madalena Martins says community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is the 7th leading cause of death in the US. About four to five million cases being reported annually and nearly 25% of the cases require hospitalization. This is one type of pneumonia commonly contacted by patients with diabetes outside of a hospital or extended health care facilities. Vaccinate annually for influenza to prevent the illness. Keeping hygiene conditions and avoiding sick people will prevent illness. The study indicates a higher risk of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP).
